Understanding the Circumstances surrounding the use of Firearms by Police Officers that result in Death or Serious Injury to a Subject in the Community: A Literature Review (August, 2009) was commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General and the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing. The purpose of the literature review was to increase understanding of the circumstances surrounding the use of firearms by police officers that results in death or serious injury to a subject in the community in order to improve the safety of police officers and the public. The Ministries commissioned Dr. Nick Jones and Dr. Ken Leyton-Brown of the University of Regina to conduct this research to examine the factors associated with these incidents.
