The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act (the UBAS Act) provides the legislative framework for the application of building and accessibility standards.
Application of building and accessibility standards is a shared responsibility.
- Building owners are obligated to comply with the minimum standards
- Local authorities (municipalities) are responsible to administer and enforce the UBAS Act and the National Building Code of Canada (NBC)
- Licensed Building Officials are appointed by local authorities to issue permits, inspect construction and enforce the NBC
- The Building Standards Unit (BSU) provides support to owners, industry, municipalities, building officials, the fire service, designers and other code and represents Saskatchewan in the national code development process.
